What is Ashi-Africa Barefoot Massage? (AABM)

Ashi-Africa Barefoot Massage is a form of Ashiatsu that has been adapted and improved on by Dr Ferreira.
Ashi~Africa Barefoot Massage combines the relaxation and enjoyment of Swedish massage with the therapeutic benefits of deep-tissue massage techniques that are applied to a lubricated body with the therapist’s soft warm feet, facilitating the hypnotic movements of the massage.  The pressure can be light or very deep.
Ashiatsu is an ancient form of bodywork using the feet to bring about a structural change to chronic soft-tissue damage, while providing complete relaxation to the client. Clients don’t walk out of a session…they float
Dr Adri Ferreira studied under Ruthie Piper in 2005, and has done over 4000 massages. Through the years, using her extensive knowledge and natural-medicine background, Dr Ferreira has altered and improved on certain movements, to formulate the Ashi-Africa Barefoot Massage which she now practices and teaches.
Ashi-Africa Barefoot Massage is a combination of ancient practises and foot-pressure techniques and modern medical knowledge, with a major emphasis on safety.
Ashi-Africa Barefoot Massage is deep, compression effleurage done with the massage therapists’ feet using the power of the legs and the weight of the body to impact the deeper muscle layers as well as more accessible surface tissues. It combines the relaxation and enjoyment of Swedish massage with the therapeutic benefits of deep-tissue massage techniques incorporating long, gliding strokes and relaxing sequences.
Ashi-Africa Barefoot Massage is performed on a standard massage table on bare skin, with TheraNaka oils, using overhead bars for the therapist’s balance and to hold weight off the client’s body when appropriate. The movements are applied to a lubricated body with the therapist’s soft, warm feet, facilitating the hypnotic movements of the massage.
Although the roots of Ashiatsu are definitely Asian, this technique and application are truly Western, originally designed with the approval of American Orthopaedic and Chiropractic physicians. Whereas Chavutti Thirummal works on energy spots (marmas) and lines (nadis), Ashi-Africa Barefoot Massage is more of an osteopathic and myofacial system, with less emphasis on chakras, meridians and energy work.
This Westernised adaptation of several Eastern techniques is perfect for clients who prefer deep massage and those with thick or well-developed muscles who have trouble feeling the impact of massage done with the hands. It is very effective on the muscles of the lower back, the glutes, the length of the spine, hamstrings and shoulders, and is often chosen by athletes and others affected in these areas.

The Deepest Most Luxurious Massage.
